Frequently Asked Questions

  • How far in advance should I schedule my ride?
We fly 7 days a week, pretty much year round (weather permitting).  On Sunday afternoons from May through October, the plane is flown in the Flying Circus. Come on out!  Weekends tend to fill up soonest, so the earlier you can schedule, the better.  On weekdays, we can usually schedule a request on much shorter notice.  Early in the morning, and late afternoon are my favorite times to fly.  If we cancel a flight due to inclement weather (at the sole discretion of the pilot) you may reschedule for another day.  There is no charge for a flight canceled at least 48 hours in advance.  However, if you cancel a booked flight within 48 hours, you will be charged for the flight.  If you wish to change the length of your flight, please let us know in advance.

  • What should I wear?
The aircraft offers good protection from the elements, so dress as if you were going for a ride in a convertible.  If the temperature is above 50 degrees, you should be quite comfortable (really).  Below about 70 degrees, a jacket is recommended.  Leather is best.  You should also bring sunglasses and  wear comfortable shoes ... we'll supply the cap & goggles. You can purchase a white silk scarf to top off your Barnstormer's Outfit!  (Our cost: $20)

  • How many people can ride?
Two.  John's Waco is certified to carry two passengers on the Barnstormer or Shenandoah Valley trips, with a weight limit of 320 lbs combined. Singles only on the Ultimate Acro flight, with a 250 lb. weight limit.

  • Are there any other restrictions?
You must be at least 6 years old and in reasonably good health.  That's it!

  • Can I bring a camera or camcorder?
Yes, a camera is a great idea!  Some people prefer a wide-angle lens.  A camcorder is good, as long as it is one of the smaller ones.

  • If a tree falls in the forest, and your wife isn't there, is it still your fault?
    Ah dunno.

  • Can we do loops & rolls on my flight?
YES, in response to popular demand, John now offers ACRO rides. Check out the rides page for more information.

  • Do you offer group discounts?
Yes.  For a second consecutive flight a 10% discount is offered.  For 3 or more consecutive flights the discount is 20%.
